Client keeps crashing after Windows update

Post by Papa-Enrico »

Hi Scott.
Last night Windows updated itself and today the Client keeps crashing. It lets us put an order through, and when we get to the Payment Type screen, we select No Payment (no register on that computer, it's on the server one) and everything just stops . It won't print nor save order.

If this is happening on all machines, then it is likely a corrupted database. Try purging some orders. Purging orders over 730 days (2 years) old will get rid of older orders which you really shouldn't need. At the end of a purge the POS will shrink the database and re-index, this process fixes a lot of issues. Always do a backup, before doing any purging as a safety net!

If it is only on one machine, but the others work then there is something wrong on that particular machine. The problem could be a Windows driver misbehaving, or even hardware in some cases. Diagnosing the single machine issue is a bit more complicated. A fresh re-install of Windows and the POS on that station would probably be a good place to start. Most of the time, this fixes the problem, but in the case of hardware failing it won't.
