Automated Nightlt DB Backup

Post by adrians 1 »

Is there a way to automate backup from the command line or scheduler?

Just backup the *.PZ6 files from your server folder. Any backup program that includes a scheduler should be able to do this.

So, just to be clear, all we need are the *.PZ6 files. I saw mention of an XML file for the meun, is this a separate backup if you want it, or is that informaiton stored in the database as well? Basically, I want to make sure I've got every file the system could need to be up and running as is. I am new to the platform, but the system is not new.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The entire database is in the .PZ6 file (typically POSPizza.PZ6).

Menu data can be exported to XML so that you can import it at other stores. The XML menu data is just an easy way to move menu-only data between sites.

Does the database need to be shutdown to copy the file?

Shutdown is not a "requirement", but it is a good idea to make sure that you get an exact duplicate of the db file and that no transactions are occurring during the copying process.

Hope this helps.

If you are running this at night, while the POS system is idle, then you should be fine.
