Credit card readers
Credit card readers
Putting together my system and curious about credit card readers. I notice one suggested had a keyboard wedge. Is this a requirement? Or can I get a generic usb based reader/writer?
Re: Credit card readers
"Keyboard wedge" only refers to the interface used between the reader and the computer. It does not specifically refer to a combination keyboard / reader device, so a standard USB device will work provided that it supports keyboard wedge mode and not just HID mode. Most newer readers have a configuration utility that would allow changing the behavior of the device.

Re: Credit card readers
Do you have a new recommendation for a chip/swipe combo?
Re: Credit card readers
For credit card terminals, the PAX S300 or A35. For employee logins / time-clock usage, I would stick with a mag-card reader.
