Setting Up a new CS POS Pizza System Questions

Postby Hometown Pizzeria » Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:35 pm

Scott or Anyone with Experience using the online ordering.

We are in the process of ordering and setting up the POS Pizza system which will be the CS version. My recent problems have been insuring we have all the required hardware and software needed.

* We have a main System to be the server.
* We run a second system currently to be used as a second terminal for all required POS operations.
* We currently have a wireless router with internet access as well as Ethernet connections.
* We are going to add the CallerID.com module with 2 to 4 lines.
? Is it critical to get a Ethernet or can the serial work just as well.
* We currently are using POS kitchen tickets printed from the main POS printer.
? Would it make more sense to add a Ethernet line printer for the kitchen or run a video monitor or 2 monitors for reducing paper waste.
? If we were to get video monitors for the kitchen what hardware would be required on the server computer to get the video selected out to the kitchen? A multi video card or just what are people using now days.
* The online ordering is a must for us and seems to have the most confusion surrounding it.
? We would like a system that a customer can create their own account is this possible with POS Pizza?
? If not then how does a person setup online ordering with POS Pizza?
* The online ordering system should be able to allow the customer to use a credit card for payment.
? Does the current POS Pizza allow for payments like this when ordering online?
? If not then how do you handle credit card requests for payment when people order online.
* The credit card handling is critical to the overall system performance. We see two companies being talked about Xcharge & ChargeitPro.
? From anyone's experience as well as from software interface is one better than the other?
? How are the two when it comes to swiping a card compared to manually entering a phone order charge?
? We do about a 50-50 split between debit and credit, all phone orders are credit where as the restaurant and pickup are about 50-50 split between debit and credit.
? The phone orders are all manual entry now on a separate terminal can they be entered in the POS Pizza the same way for phone orders?

Scott,
Can I get a look at the POS Online ordering prior to our final decision on the POS Pizza software, we are 90% ready but really need to talk with the users and you about the above items to insure we can go from our current POS software system to POS Pizza on the day of switch over like flipping a switch. We cannot afford to have to jump back and forth when you are making credit card provider changes, phone system ID changes, as well as overall software major change, not to mention the front end users but the drivers also need to be click and ready to go.

Sincerely,
Hometown Pizzeria

No, the serial unit works just fine. Serial is a more complex setup however, and serial communications knowledge is helpful. Ethernet is more of a plug-n-play setup compared to serial. Both work equally as well though once setup.

The screen versions of the make-line's give you more flexibility than printers. Printers always print a "receipt" either a filtered version or a full version. The screens show only items for that line, and on edits only show "new" items added to an order and not the entire order again like a printer will. The only exception to this, is the box label printing. It too will add only "new" items to an edited order unlike the receipt printers which always print the entire order.

You need another computer. This is not just a monitor but a full computer. Refurbished XP machines are quite inexpensive and can do the job well.

Yes, you need to download the add-on CGI module to add this capability. We will be releasing a "new and improved" online ordering system sometime after the first of the year which will change the way the current system works. The current system will continue to be supported until v7 is released. We recommend using the new system when it becomes available because it is fully GCI-based and will work on Apache or any other Windows-based web server such as IIS. It will be a full separate download package. Full details are not yet available, but we do expect it to be out sometime in the next month or so.

* The online ordering system should be able to allow the customer to use a credit card for payment.

Yes, you can take online payment via ChargeItPro and this is a fully automated process. The customer orders, pays for the order, and POS Pizza knows that the order was placed online, and paid for online.

You should call them both and get rate quotes. I don't know what their rates are but they will generally work something out based on your situation and volume.

Our current demo system has been taken offline, since we are in the middle of developing a new system. I will post a link to the new demo system when it becomes available.
