How to add items that cannot be discounted?

Post by ormejiadp »

In the State of Utah, alcohol cannot be given a discount (you wont see "happy hour" or buy 1 get one discounted alcoholic drink).
We need to be able to ring up alcoholic beverages, and if the person has a coupon for example "get $10 off your order" it should not discount the alcoholic drink. We are forbidden to comp an alcoholic drink!!
How can we handle this with POS Pizza? I was looking in all ways and finally decided to ask.

For example, if an order is a total of 25, 5 of that tap is for a beer, and then the guest has a 25% coupon. Disregarding the taxes for the example, how can we make so the 25% applies to only $20 of the order *so the discount is only 5 dollars instead of 6.25 ???

Fixed dollar amounts are discounted directly off of the total, not specific item(s). For percentage discounts that you want to only apply to certain item(s), add a non-inventory item to the order and use the percentage calculator included to calculate the desired discount. For example if you wanted 25% off of $64.80, enter that in and the calculator will automatically create a non-inventory item named ** 25% Discount with -16.20 as the amount. This will discount that amount from your order.

There is no way to automate the process of applying percentage discounts to only certain items on an order. The non-inventory item is your best solution in this case.

Hi Scott, is the process of applying percentage discounts to only certain items on an order technically impossible to implement?

Of course not. Nothing is technically impossible, but it comes down to the best method of implementation. There are some upcoming additions coming to the premium module which may help in some of these cases.

I already added a feature request for this to the wish list.

You can create two order types, one for alcohol and one for the rest.
Then you can create a coupon code to apply a discount only on the "non-alcohol" order type.

If you are running v8 (or newer), you can simply exempt certain items from being discounted. Edit the items that you don't want the discount applied to, and then on the Options tab page, check the Exclude From Discounts option on the bottom left of the page in the Item Toggles section. See image below.
