Pole display question

Post by zippaz23 »

I recently got an IBM pole display given to me. It is the same kind that are used in Wal-Mart stores. The wire that comes off of it and connects to the computer looks like a cat5 cable. The problem I have is how do I hook this up to my computer if the ethernet card is already in use and connected to the hub? Do I have to install another ethernet lan card? Also when I am ready to get cable internet service, is it possible to install an additional ehternet card as well? Thanks is advance for your help.

It is really hard to say what type of interface that is. I doubt it is ethernet, and POS Pizza's poll displays have to be serial. It may be serial, but with a proprietary termination. You may need to contact IBM for info on this.

When you get your cable-modem, I would recommend getting a "router" and hooking the cable modem to it, rather than to the PC. Then all of your computers on the network will be able to access the Internet if needed.
