Caller ID and Hardware Questions.

Post by Joe Amitrano »

Hi, regarding the caller ID software. I read that I will need a special modem. After I install the modem will I need an internet connection to get the customer info? or will it be generated through the Caller ID service?

I want to relocate my ticket printer about 100 feet from where the computer is. will it still work properly? where can I get the cable? what would I have to do to set up a second printer at another section of the shop? Would I have to get another serial port intalled? can I go USB? how would I configure it? Alot of questions. sorry.

Thanks for any help.

USB works fine for me

I started with a printer I picked up for $20 at a used shop that died after 4 months, so I figured I got my money's worth out of it, and spent more on a better one, but when I got it home it only had a USB port. It seems to work fine.

You can also run Serial printers at 100 feet with no problem. Another solution would be a network printer, or a Print Server Appliance such as HP's JetDirect box.
