Running server in VM

Post by TOIMI »

Just so seeing if anyone has done this or if there are any foreseeable problems with doing this.

We have done it here, and it works. As long as the VM can see the USB dongle, all should be fine.

Good to know, just thinking to save space I might go with a beefier single system and put esx on it to run both the server and the online ordering rather than have 2 systems.

I am currently evaluating and use a VPS for database and online ordering.
There are no chance that I can add a dongle to the server.
Does that mean that this solution won't work in production?
Using a physical dongle is old fasioned I think.

The database server requires a USB dongle, the web server does not. The clients also don't require a dongle. The clients also can only talk to our database server since it is proprietary. The data file itself is SQLite and is open source.
